insight to some soul

thoughts on amazing encounters with people in this life from kat in uganda.
katsees:

As I always discuss with my great friend Megan, role models are hard to find these days.  One incredibly strong women I have a great deal of respect for is the Ugandan leader Betty Bigombe. She was instrumental in leading peace talks with Kony as early as 1994 and since has devoted her time trying to curb corruption on a world wide scale. Before I came to Uganda I was constantly making people sit down with me to watch a documentary that breaks down the war, and every time the 2 minute segment with Betty B. would come on the screen I would get a little too excited and, “I swear, if I’m in Uganda the same time Betty is I HAVE to meet her! …and today, I DID!  I won’t go into too many details, but pretty much I got to share half a day with her, got the chance to photograph her, and somehow during a long, bumpy car ride back to town got the guts to ask her how she feels about the Lord’s Resistance Army Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act that Obama just signed into Law.   Just sitting in the car with her and discussing her take on the current situation up north made my week…. I’m on cloud 9 and somehow I think this cured my malaria.
so jason, the flaco closest to my heart, is also one of my very favorite photographers. it seems like his art are these casual observations that come easily to him. makes you want to explore life differently. and for that, i reblog. much love, homes.

Brooklyn, NY. May 25, 2010.
Check out the beginning of an amazing summer of releases from Ohio University with this year’s Soul of Athens. I have a piece that’s a part of the Expression edition called A Wild Man’s Freedom on a man named John Peck, who has become a good friend of mine.
A different edition with new stories will be released every two weeks. I was lucky to work with my buddy Ty Wright as senior producers on the Shelter edition (to be released 06/29). It was a trying experience with lots of sleepless night full of bad food and final cut mania, but the end product is (not to sound generic) super rewarding. Bottom line: worth it.
Thanks to the Verve Photo blog for shining their pretty light in the direction of one of my favorite photos of some of my favorite people. Its a fun blog to keep up with if you don’t already.
